New era Technology
Technology is all "the body of knowledge typical of the mechanical trades and industrial arts". The great modern factories, with their complicated mechanisms and the marvelous industrial procedures that take place in them, are the exponent of technological progress.
When we talk about technology, only words like computers, video games, compact discs, etc. come to mind. without noticing that this word refers to them without a number of machines or tools moved by a non-human force but which has to be directed by a man. These machines could be, from items as small as calculators or watches to cars, airplanes, or the already mentioned and famous computers. It should be noted that several of these machines work on their own but it was a man who started it and who can stop it.
Technology, with its pros and cons, has developed in a wonderful way and has allowed life to be prolonged, the sanitation system improved and the methods of production and distribution of different things such as food harvesting have advanced, clothes, etc. Technology has also contributed to the development of new manufacturing techniques and has made communications and transportation faster and more efficient.
The world has shrunk due to advances in modern technology. So much so that it has already become a fundamental part of the functional development of the country. We have reached the point that a society without technology is like a prehistoric society. Everywhere, from our homes to the outskirts of them, we have more than three technologically modern items ranging from a television, a component with a compact disc or a microwave, to the cart in which we transport ourselves to stores, the cash registers with scanners, air conditioning, traffic lights, etc. Even in schools computers have begun to be located to train children from the age of four.
Our libraries, whether school, university, public or specialized are no exception. In them we can see the technical and productive advance of modern technology by observing the different work tools used in the instruction process. Tools that positively influence the teaching and learning processes and that have arisen due to a great need to know.
These tools are of great help in today's education as they contribute to mass indoctrination, stimulate their senses and increase the effectiveness of learning. This is where technological means come in and why they are important.
By using technological means in the library, we objectify the content of the teaching, in addition to linking theory with practice. Talking about the Taínos and describing them verbally is not the same as observing people in indigenous clothing and in real huts through a film. Here comes a technological resource: videotape and videotape, a medium that makes the teaching-learning process more attractive and increases the motivation of the students. Another example would be what we call virtual reality; where we would be another of the indigenous people of the tribe and we could enter the town and even touch their kitchen or hunting utensils, allowing us to bring realities difficult to study in their natural environment to the classroom.
Technology is constantly evolving and for this reason, we have been forced to replace some tools with others in almost the blink of an eye. An example of this is the filmstrips or slides that have been replaced by film videos, which show reality in a vivid way; the razors for the computers, which also correct and print the material; the fans for the air conditioners, which are used to cool or heat depending on the place or time of year; and 33 LP records or cassettes for compact discs, laser system, etc.
Librarians have not lost interest and are not discouraged by new technology. On the contrary, it has alleviated the work of librarians who have decided to take courses and training to master the new machinery and be at the forefront of modern technology.
Libraries today offer electronic networking services to the school community and the general public. They have electronic information centers made up of automated networks of microcomputers, compact discs, facsimiles, photocopying machines, printers, and video discs. Through an electronic network terminal, you can obtain general or specialized information on a myriad of topics. The data obtained in the electronic network can be read on the screen or printed for later reading. Although most of these projects are established beginning in school libraries until reaching
